Here I’m sure you will find plenty of new ideas to help generate large blisters on your
fingers.

With many years of playing and building guitars under my belt and having worked
for some of the finest American guitar companies,
Baker Guitars, Ernie
Ball/Music Man, Gibson Guitar Corporation, Fender Musical Instruments as well
building for the famous and the not so famous. I’ve dedicated my life time to the electric guitar and I have a lot of interesting information to share. Stay tuned to
www.meangene.org for more up to date news, events and projects in the works.

Mean Gene’s Insane Lead Guitar Manual was written and introduced to the public in 1990. The book contains over 114 pages of lessons, theory, written tests (with answers), playing tests and covers all the information you need to prepare for a music college or just for your own knowledge. Set in an 80's hard rock style vibe although the information easily translates well into all styles and I have trained everyone from country players, blues, pop rock, to young shred players getting ready to take on the world!
Originally written for my students so I didn’t have to waste as much time hand writing and we could get in more playing time. This way we could quickly focus in on a subject while also seeing how various songs or original ideas link up to the lessons in the manual.
The book is aimed at interaction between a private instructor and their student although is so well laid out one can teach themselves, fully spiral bound for ease of use with tablature and fretboard graphics to make sure you can understand what's being taught. Written tests, playing tests in a neat and orderly fashion designed to teach you the most important tools required to understand and get around your fretboard quickly with a far better understanding of basic theory and how to apply it to your guitar.
The video guides you through the book with 2 hours of information. Far more informative than most instruction training methods found on the market today. Available on DVD or VHS. Complete with on screen notation and close up shots. Originally filmed in 1989 when young Gene was in his shred days, although you will find that the information translates well into any music style. This is not a "learn to play my riffs instruction type method", it aims at getting theory and the understanding of your fretboard into your every day playing as quickly and easily as possible. The book and video as a package is a very complete and well informed way to bone up on your lead guitar playing. Rather comical with some chain saw guitar.
See my website www.meangene.org for a video clips or download tunes from original or cover tunes bands I have played with. I can often be found playing live around the CA, Central Coast area (Pismo Beach) with a list of current dates on the site.
Mark Kayne writes: "Gene Baker, famous for his guitars, puts out one of the finest teaching books. I’ve been using it for 3 years, and what a difference. I can’t stress how good they are. "
